As a non-profit tax exempt organization, Mill A Volunteers (MAV) do not receive any tax support, but rely on membership fees, donations and grants.  Awarded their first Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grant in 2003, MAV has been purchasing updated communication equipment, training material, safety gear and other items for firefighters. Much of their turnout gear and other equipment was over 20 years old! In January of 2005 a second small grant allowed the purchase of a used US Forest Service fire truck.

The service area is approximately 40 square miles. It includes high power transmission lines from Bonneville Dam, a natural gas pipeline and pumping station, miles of dirt roads, and isolated rivers popular with kayakers and fishermen.  Add to that extreme winter weather, random power outages, hot, dry, windy summers, steep terrain subject to wildfires, earthquakes and land slides and you can appreciate the efforts and courage of these volunteers.

The MAV Fire Hall is located on Jessup Road in Mill A, next to Mill A School.. Mailing address is P.O. Box 267, Underwood, Washington 98651. For further information, contact (509) 538-2313.  All contributions are tax deductible.
