REGULAR
MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION
The West Side Fire Department (WSFD)
volunteers are organized to provide emergency fire and medical
services within the West Side Rural Fire Protection
District. The West Side Rural Fire Protection District is
supported by local property tax assessments. The District
provides all equipment, individual gear and facilities for the
volunteers. The District is governed by a five-member board
elected by the residents of the district. The board
appoints the Chief, Assistant Chiefs and Fire Marshal. The
Chiefs are responsible for the operation of all emergency and
regular business services. The Fire Marshal is responsible
for daily operations. Social offices are elected
bi-annually by the members. Click here
to view a list of our curent staff. The WSFD volunteer
organization conducts social events and other functions of
benefit to members and to the community. Money is raised
for our social activities by sponsoring a Blossom Day breakfast
and other social functions open to the
public.
The monthly activities of the Department
are as follows:
1. First Mondays - Equipment and truck check.
2. Second Mondays - Business meeting.
3. Third & fourth Mondays - Training (Fire
and EMS drills).
GENERAL MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
To be a regular member of the West Side Fire
Department you must:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Reside in the West Side Fire Protection District.
- Provide your own transportation and vehicle liability
insurance.
- Be willing to abide by the by-laws and standard operating
guidelines (SOG's) of the WSFD.
- Complete a 180-day probationary period.
- Complete the Basic Firefighter course and have a First
Aid card and CPR card as soon as possible.
- Have a valid Oregon Drivers License.
- Be willing to submit to a character background check,
driving record check,and physical examination.
- Not have been convicted of a felony or any crime
that is related to emergency fire and medical service.
The membership application process has the following
requirements:
- The WSFD application form must be complete and accurate
and submitted to the WSFD Secretary or Fire Marshal.
- The application will be posted at the Fire Hall for
review by all membersfor a period of 30 days.
- The investigating committee will conduct the background
checks and schedule a personal interview.
- The investigating committee will determine if an
applicant is to be put on the waiting list, accepted as a
probationary member, or rejected for membership.
- The probationary member will be interviewed and checked
for participation in the department and knowledge of the
by-laws and SOGs of the WSFD at the end of the
probationary period.
- The applicant is then voted on by the membership of the
WSFD.
Application forms can be obtained from
the Fire Marshal (WSFD Station #2, 1185 Tucker Road, Hood River,
OR, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday-Friday, 541-386-5551) or through
any Officer of the WSFD.
