Inclusion on this list does not mean that the ideas or programs offered are endorsed by the Skamania Klickitat Community Network; only that the information contained may be of use or interest to readers.  This list is by no means complete-there are hundreds of sites devoted to specific parenting needs and concerns.








Check out our parent resource library-currently housed at the Klickitat County Health Department in White Salmon. Materials may be loaned for up to 30 days.

GorgeKids  A wonderful and fun local resource for parents and children.

HealthyPlace.com This parenting site has a list of parenting books suggested by parents. (Note-inclusion here is not meant as an endorsement of a particular book-these are simply suggested readings other parents found useful).

Kaboose-where families get going!  Activities, advice and more for parents of kids of all ages.

Minti  A parenting forum described as My Space for grownups.  Parents from all over the world share their knowledge and ideas with others.

Search Institute-an independent nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide leadership, knowledge, and resources to promote healthy children, youth, and communities.

Effective & Successful Parenting  -A site offered by the University of Missouri Outreach and Extension.

15+  -A campaign sponsored by the US Department of Health & Human Services that provides practical guidance for parents and caregivers on how to strengthen their relationship with their children by spending at least 15 minutes of daily, undivided time with them and focusing on them.

Planetree Health Resource Center: Located in The Dalles, this link will take you to their lending library.  Click the link to search their on-line catalog, enter Parenting in the search bar, and hundreds of books and other resources will pop up.  To borrow you need to have a Gorge Link Library Card.

Successful Parenting- A site offered by the Child Development Institute.  There are many free articles on discipline, toddlers, anger management, communication skills, stress management, online safety for teens, homework help, etc. Some links lead to a section where books, tapes, or videos/CD's may be purchased.

The Stepfamily Network -Where stepfamilies can find and share ideas and support.

The Father's Network   The Father's Network, located in Washington State, provides current information and resources to assist all families and care providers involved in the lives of children with special needs. This information is up-to-date and designed to promote the resilience of all family members.

Values Parenting-Values Parenting is based on the experience and proactive philosophy of best selling authors Richard and  Linda Eyre on having a well-conceived program for teaching your children. The Values Parenting site changes monthly with different ideas and methods to help you strengthen your family. The authors have a strong spiritual based belief which underlies their ideas and values.

Grandparents as Parents This site is based in Northwest Washington State.  It has numerous links to many Washington State providers, resources, activities and other information needed by grandparents.

KINSHIP CARE IN WASHINGTON STATE is at http://www1.dshs.wa.gov/kinshipcare/index.shtml  

DSHS has developed a web based information system for Grandparents and/or other family members who are raising a relative's child.
The financial, legal, and emotional issues of raising a relative's child can be challenging. Services and support when raising a relative's child can be a lifesaver.  Getting answers to questions and finding services, programs, and support can be confusing and overwhelming.  This web site can be a good starting point for finding the answers.  Pass it along.

Within Reach: ParentHelp123  Formerly Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies, this site enables Washington State families to screen themselves for eligibility for state benefit programs such as WIC, Basic Food, Basic Health, Children's Health Program (CHP) and Pregnancy Medicaid.  There are printable applications available on the website.  ParentHelp123 also allows families to search by zip code or keyword for local resources such as childcare, food banks and immunization clinics.

Start Talking Now A website from the Family Policy Council that helps and supports parents face the issues of drinking by underage kids.  There are some great ideas on how to get talking with your kids about drinking.
