The Skamania Klickitat Early Learning Coalition is active in both counties. Parents are a child's best teacher, and we support that fully. We use Born Learning materials to help parents realize how easy (and important!) it is to provide their child the skills to start school ready to learn.
It doesn't take expensive toys or DVD's to help your little one. Something as simple as cardboard boxes, pots and pans, and paper bags can be magic. Spending time with your child is what matters. It's not all about A-B-C's and 1-2-3's! Learning to sit and listen, follow directions, share toys and space and cooperate with other children is important, too.
Learn and Play programs are offered in White Salmon and Stevenson nearly every month of the school year. Parents with babies, toddlers and pre-school children are invited to attend and join in the fun. There is no cost to attend-it's totally free.
Come listen to some stories, sing a song, and maybe dance a little bit. Wiggle your fingers and toes, quack like a duck, and maybe jingle a bell or two. Have some fun doing crafts, and have dinner or a snack. Every child gets a free book, too!
We thank the Foundation for Early Learning and the Discuren Foundation for supporting these events. Other contributors are Mid-Columbia Council for Children/Head Start, White Salmon School District, Educational Service District 112, Skamania Klickitat Community Network, Stevenson-Carson School District, Klickitat County Health Department, Stevenson Community Health, Wee Care of Stevenson and Ft. Vancouver Regional Library.
For other early learning fun, check the Ft. Vancouver Regional Library near you for free story and play times that promote reading with youngsters. There are library branches in Goldendale, North Bonneville, Stevenson and White Salmon, Washington. Click on the above link to find information on each library in these communities.
