Executive Board Meeting
The next Executive Board meeting will be on Tuesday, June 8, 1999 at 7:00 AM at the Hood River Charburger. All members are encouraged to attend.
June Field Trip
Our June chapter activity is the same as announced in the May newsletter. We are planning a field trip to tour Washington State DNR lands located in Klickitat County. All SAF and Small Woodland Association members are invited. The tour will be on Friday, June 18 from 10:00 am to 3:00 PM. Topics to view and discuss are: 1) Thinning from below in ponderosa pine, 2) Under burning for timber and wildlife, and 3) management of Armillaria and black stain root diseases. We plan to meet at the DNR office in Husum, WA at 10:00 AM. Bring field clothes and you own lunch. The Chapter will provide refreshments and bottled water.

Notes from the Chair
The Executive Committee is discussing different formats for Chapter meeting this fall. Since attendance at meetings the past few months has been poor, we
feel it is not fair to bring guest speakers in and only have a few people show up to the meeting. We are thinking of having a Forestry Forum where only Chapter and Small Woodland members would attend and discuss current issues among ourselves. We all come from different backgrounds and experience. We have a lot to share with one another. Discussion topics could be open or one individual could give talk about their work or a special issue. Let us know what you think of this idea.
The OSAF requested that each Chapter make a $50 gift to the Northwest Joint Office in order for them to purchase a new PC that is Y2K compatible. The Executive Committee agreed to do this.
The OSAF has a draft proposal on timberland certification they would like members to review and comment on. You can find a copy of it on the web site at www.forestry.org. Check it out and put in your two cents worth.
