We normally have an election of officers in November. This past year we were late getting our ballot in the mail. Since we only had one candidate for each elected office, we went ahead and made officer appointments in order to meet the December deadline for the Joint Office. Feel free to contact any of the officers about ideas for chapter activities or meeting topics in 1999. Chapter meetings as usual will be on the 3rd Thursday of each month. Some will be at 6:00pm in the evening and some will be at noon. Our meetings are open to the public. As with last year, we will extend an invitation to the Mid Columbia Small Woodlands Association to attend our meetings. Look for the meeting announcements in the monthly Newsletter.

Executive planning meetings will be at 7:00am on the 2nd Tuesday each month at the Charburger in Hood River. These meetings are open to anyone who would like to participate in Chapter activity planning.

On January 8and 9, John Forsberg and Richard Larson attended the joint Oregon-Washington SAF Leadership Conference. It was convenient because it was held in Hood River. We met the State Officers and many of the Chapter officers. This year Bill Banzhaf, SAF Executive VP, attended and spoke about issues facing SAF at the national and state levels.

Did you know: The SAF consists of 33 state societies, 244 Chapters, and about 18,000 members?

The big event this year for the SAF in Oregon, Washington, and the Inland Empire will be the National meeting being held in Portland, September 9-15. They are already looking for volunteers to help on committees. Volunteer sign up sheets will be available at the next meeting. Members who volunteer at least 8 hours will receive a reduced fee on their convention registration. Sign up early to get your best choice of assignments.
