Management Practices for Orchard Spraying |
Prevent chemical runoff and off-target contamination
during mixing and loading procedures. |
Mix and load sprayers in areas where runoff cannot
occur. Locating fill areas away from open surface water greatly reduces the
likelihood that rinsate or spilled materials will runoff and contaminate
local surface waters. Even water in seasonal drainages and irrigation ditches can transport
contaminants. |
Clean up spills immediately. Have spill absorbent materials available when mixing and loading. Cleaning up spills with absorbent material reduces likelihood of overland
runoff of chemical pesticides into open water sources. Spilled material that is not cleaned up can contaminate open
water resources through pathways including overland runoff, soil erosion, and
leaching. |
