Suksdorf House

412 West Jefferson Bingen, Washington

Original Owner: Theodore Suksdorf
Current Owner: Terry Trantow

The Suksdorf family came to the White Salmon Flats (now named Bingen) in 1874. One of nine children, it was Theodore who built this home around 1910. Bits of newsprint found in the walls were dated 1898-1900. However, the sash weight pulleys were patented in 1905, so 1910 is probably correct.
Various remodel changes took place around 1953-54 including a two-room addition with bath. Many of these changes have been returned to their 1910-18 circa. The dining room flooring is original.
Throughout the original main floor, the woodwork was restored. The present kitchen was designed around a restored 1927 gas range, and the backyard terrace was constructed in 1980 using cast concrete bricks (circa 1920) which came from the walls of the milk house!
This much-loved home continues to be a work-in-progress to complete total restoration.
